We have recently seen that many celebrities are leaving social media platforms to help improve their mental health. Some of the many queries and concerns people approach us about relate to social media.
When do we know it’s becoming excessive?
Do you ever find you cannot put your phone down for a few minutes without wanting to check Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc. Do you ever find yourself getting caught up with online content, images about the latest trend whether it’s related to health, beauty products, shoes, clothes, gossip and then feel this sink in mood? Do you ever feel worthless, hopeless, or low after scroll through social media platforms? These maybe signs that we are spending too much time on social media and we need to take a break for our mental health.
One of the biggest tips I ever gave to someone was to limit social media use, delete social media or start following influencers who promote positivity. Switch the beauty trends and unrealistic body trends for people who want to create change (for example the Obamas).
Don’t get us wrong there a social media platforms that promote positivity and that are great for us, they may help boost wellbeing such as platforms where we can express ourselves and receive positive feedback however there are others that don’t.
What we are trying to say is limit the amount of time spent on platforms and start exploring other things to help boost your mental health. The world isn’t behind the screen it’s out there.
